Shells Le Cain

Shells Le Cain — Experimental Film Society

Biography

Shells Le Cain, also known as Shelly Sarah Kamiel, is a filmmaker who has recently relocated to Cork from New York City. Her dark, wryly humorous films invite viewers into an intensely personal vision that is as unsettling as it is visually seductive. They unfold like shamanic trances, with Kamiel often appearing as the solitary central figure, conjuring images that dissolve memory, dream, and reality into a lyrical, psychedelic phantasmagoria.

For all their kaleidoscopic beauty, her films are marked by a deep fragility and permeated by a haunting current of bewildered melancholy. She is following up her recent short-film trilogy — Rinse: Repeat (2018), Blood in the Butter (2019), and Supernova Cash Out (2020) — with her first feature film, Ghost Dust (2024), which will premiere at CineSalon. She studied film at the Film Conservatory at SUNY Purchase and has worked in post-production for more than a decade in New York.
